Weddings, Part 2

Since the greatest wedding of our time is literally right around the corner (and over the pond...and through the woods to grandmother's house we go), I figure I might as well express my interest in it.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!

First of all, the dress.  I simply cannot wait to see it.  It will set the trend for the next few years worth of weddings!  Maybe even mine!  Maybe!  Second, just the amount of decoration put into it is going to be fun.  I love decorating anything and everything so I am sure I will start collecting pictures to save "just in case" the second they are available.  To see how everything will be perfectly executed with military precision is going to be awesome to watch and nerve racking at the same time!  What if something goes wrong?  Not that they don't have 100,000 back up plans, but still.

I don't know if many Americans are nearly as excited as they could and should be.  Maybe it's just because this is the culmination of a life long obsession with England all coming together in one grand day that I am a wee bit more excited that most?  Maybe it's because I spent a year there?  Maybe it's because I want to be a princess?  I don't know, but I just don't understand why people don't seem to be interested in it over here.

I am 99% sure I will be rising before the sun to watch coverage starting at 5:00 a.m.  I have to get in as much of it as I can before work at 9:00.  I will then proceed to wear all black to work because I will be in mourning.  It very well may actually kill me to not see it live.  I also may or may not have big plans to have it stream live from Yahoo! on my computer...just sayin' this is something one shouldn't miss!  I will also be drinking excessive amounts of tea and saying British things like "you alright?" and I am so "gutted" I am missing this and "pip pip cheerio gov'ner".  Okay maybe not the last one but ya never know.

Either way, if you miss it, you're nuts,
Em

Side note:  I am out of control obsessed with Adele's new record, 21.  It's amazing!  And conveniently British!

Jeans

This last weekend, I decided I needed jeans.  Well, I decided I needed a lot of things such as Coach shoes, designer jeans, dressy pants for work, running gear, random things for Fluffy, etc..  What I came away with though was these two below!  I wanted a third pair (considering going back for them after my next paycheck? Maybe.) but couldn't justify it at the moment.  Not that these were justified, but you get the gist of it.

I will tell you one thing.  I will never go back to anything less than designer.  I wore the True Religion jeans below for less than a full-day cleaning but I already knew I never wanted to take them off.  No joke.  They are probably the most comfortable jeans I've ever worn.  I love the cute butt pockets with the rainbow of colors! I fear the picture doesn't show the colors well enough, but they are very visible in person, trust me.  It is perfect for the summer...think yellow tank with them.  Not mustard but daffodil.

The Hudson's I chose because they are clean and have a dark wash.  They're pretty much my new go-to pair.  How can you go wrong with that?  If we were allowed to wear jeans to work, I'd pick these.  Then slam on some huge heels and go party right after; that is how versatile they are!

So excited!

They'rrrrrrrre Great!

Weddings, Part 1

Random Thoughts on Weddings, Part 1

Lately I have been obsessed with weddings.  I love everything about them, the dress, the decorations, and just the thought of having a massive party celebrating the couple.  But my question is, is it all worth it?  Part of me says, yes of course it is.  It is a once in a lifetime thing, it’s a day you’ll remember for the rest of your life, it’s the first day of forever.  Another part of me says, not really.  I think about how much money goes into just that one single day.  You wear a dress worth hundreds or thousands of dollars, you spend a year planning, and you make sure everything is perfect day in and day out but for what?  So you can say it was better than someone else’s?  So you can prove your love?  I am just not sure.
Truth of the matter is I am a fashion girl.  I love the idea of everyone dressing up.  I love the idea of decorating the tables, chairs, etc…I think I just love, love.  Maybe to sum things up, the couple should celebrate however they feel comfortable…as long as it is within their budget (ugh, why does there have to be budgets??).  Every couple deserves to feel as special as they are and to celebrate how they can.
I have been going back and forth on this a lot…tis the season, right?!

Nail Polish Yourself

So I am not sure if I missed out on this high school obsession or what, but recently I have become infatuated with nail polish.  In fact, I've made a pact of sorts with my friend Mish who has rediscovered this with me to change our color every Sunday.  I am currently trying to decide what my new color is going to be and realizing I should go shopping for more...

While we all know that O.P.I is the best, there are a few others out there that can compete; at least in the sense of saturation of color and price.

Look for Sinful Colors nail polish.  You can get it at Walgreen's and Target or online at sinfulcolors.com (which is currently closed for maintenance but should be open soon!).  The bottles are a pretty good size and only cost $1.99 at the store or $2.50 online plus shipping.  There are tons of colors available and new collections out all the time.  Right now, Walgreen's has the Carousel Collection that boasts nostalgic pastels in teal, pink and blues.

For the spring, I love chalky pastels on fingers as long as your nails aren't too long.  Go for pinks or blue/greens.  I secretly paint my toes bright summer colors at this point because I am not quite ready to wear open toe shoes yet but love to be reminded that warmth is on its way!  I am wearing a bright blue from Sally Hansen that looks like a slushie.  I think next I am going for yellow in the same brand.  These are only $2.99 and can be found anywhere that sells polish.

Here is the link to the colors I purchased from Sally Hansen so far:

Well, I better get to painting or Mish will be mad!

Coming Home

Does anyone else think that the new series on Lifetime called "Coming Home" looks so so amazing?  I feel like if you need to feel good and have a good cry, this would be the show...Just sayin'.

Long Time No Write!

Hey all, I'm back!  Sorry it has been so long; I had some issues with Internet that have now been solved!

Currently working on making a list of things I would like to write about.  Thing of interest to me at the moment:

1) Lingerie (recently attended a small pre-bachelorette party for a friend).
2) Nail polish.  Lots of it.
3) Spring/Summer clothes.
4) Shoes.  Nothing new there...
5) Sales.  Who doesn't like a bargain?
6) Future blog/website plans.

If anybody has any suggestions or questions, please let me know!

Soon,
Em

83rd Annual Academy Awards!

First of all, Rachel Zoe is a legend.  She is the one responsible for styling Anne Hathaway for the entire night.  Although I liked some looks more than others, overall it was a massive win.  Thank goodness she looked good too because that was about the only thing that went well for Anne.  While Ms. Hathaway tried her darnedest to be a young, lively, "hip" host, it was probably hard for her to focus much next to her seemingly high co-host James Franco.  Now don't get me wrong, I love James.  In fact, Pineapple Express is one of the funniest movies I've seen in semi-recent years.  I just didn't know he was taking preparations for Pineapple Express II so far.  I mean honestly, was he even present?

Enough of that garbage though...on to the dresses!!

Red Carpet Wins:  Natalie Portman was absolutely glowing in her Rodarte gown.  Her co-start Mila Kunis is the only person who could have ever pulled off the lilac Elle Saab Haute Couture number and actually look classy and elegant in it.  Reese Witherspoon looked cute as a button per her usual self and really kept it classic and chic in black and white paired with a voluminous ponytail.  There was something unique and interesting in Gwyneth Paltrow's look.  The actress/singer wore a modern looking gown from the Calvin Klein Collection and rocked it.  There is something very "hippy" about her, no?  I was all about Scarlett Johansson's look if only because it was such a massive upgrade from the Bride of Frankenstein. I also have to say I was impressed with Mandy Moore.  While I am not entirely sure why she was there, not many people have tried and have been successful with the mesh top/sleeve thing.  This color matched her skin perfectly and looked seamless on the red carpet.

Near Wins: Amy Adams nailed the color and sparkle factor, but forgot to take in account that cap sleeves are very hard to wear.  I also have some reservations with the jewelry. I am putting Halle Berry in this category not because she didn't look amazing, because she always does, but because this is exactly what I expected her in.  She wears the same style and same color so often, it is just getting old.  Jennifer Lawrence did really pretty well for her first award season and this look was my favorite.  The only problem I had with her Calvin Klein Collection dress was that it was just that.  A little too simple perhaps?  She could have used some bling!

Fails: Nicole Kidman because she is creepy and her dress really did look like a kimono.  Sandra Bullock because something was wrong with her face; did she just walk out of a face lift or something?  Reluctantly Jennifer Hudson.  Her dress was great, the color was great, her body looked great...erm minus her breasts.  Yikes.  Wear a bra from now on deary.  No matter what.  Please.  Thanks.  There are definitely a few more on this list but they are only the predictable ones, so why bother?

The night was fun and full of great fashion.  Overall, I actually enjoyed the show as well...at least it was funny, right?

Until next time,
Em
